Three years ago a local Seattle group, led by Betty Carey began meeting regularly to exchange information about their women-owned businesses. The concept is that if owners know enough about each other's businesses, they can be referral sources for one another. As a result of this informal networking, women have felt supported in their ventures and realized financial and many other benefits from their networking.

In the last few months, many conversations have centered on how the Internet can catapult their businesses to a new level. The vision for a new Web site grew from the interest generated by these women entrepreneurs in the Northwest.

The new site, WomenInSmallBiz.com, aims to empower women to help them succeed as entrepreneurs through affordable, professionally maintained services for their own Web sites and through the power of a Web of connections enabled by this site. This site is a portal to women-owned businesses for one-stop shopping for products and services.

Betty's long-term goal is to create a foundation to help women fund startups or make capital improvements to their existing businesses. Contact her directly if you would like to contribute seed money to the new foundation.

We invite you to participate by 1) attending local meetings in Seattle if you are able; 2) providing biographical details for you or your business via e-mail attachment (Word files suggested); or 3) taking advantage of Web site offerings available at the WomeninSmallBiz.com Web site. Links from this site are also available at no charge.

If so, this information may be valuable to you.

WomeninSmallBiz.com offers affordable Web site development for women-owned businesses. Through cooperative power we then feature those businesses on the WomeninSmallBiz.com site — a one-stop shopping platform for women business owners.

All sites developed on the WomenInSmallBiz.com Web site will have access to stats about visitation to their site and benefit from registration with top search engines and the cooperative advertising efforts by the central site's Web master — important keys to success on the Web.
